Middleton
hall
r.r. SECHI
I
arrived at Middleton Hall (Tamworth, UK) just before 9pm on the 26th August,
2016 and met up with the other prospective ‘ghost hunters’ just before going
inside. After a short introduction from Yvette Fielding and her husband Karl
Beattie from the UK TV show, ‘Most Haunted’, the event got under way. The hall
itself dates back to medieval times and not surprisingly as soon as I stepped
through the door, I felt a weird sensation, a kind of pressure on and around my
head that told me something was up. Thankful that I was not alone, we split up
into teams and the lights were all soon turned off so that the night’s vigil
could begin.
Despite
the eerie feeling of the building itself, surprisingly there was not a lot of
activity during the first part of the evening, except for the flashing lights
of some of the monitoring equipment indicating some kind of external presence.
Over the years, there have been many reports of a male character haunting the
building, mainly in the downstairs kitchen area, but also others claimed to
have seen, or heard, a female as well in the upstairs corridors. Later this
became apparent, as Yvette actually managed to make contact with the female and
get her to repeat a tune via a series of taps or bangs. This made the hairs
tingle on the back of your neck as the sounds were clearly not coming from any
of us in the group but somewhere else unseen. Also, some questions were asked
and replies given by knocking twice for yes or once for no.
Apparently,
this woman disliked the man, who lived there with her, who she indicated was
downstairs, as he liked to spend most of his time in the kitchen, which was
where we headed next. As we walked in, another group were performing a séance
and the glass was vigorously moving all over the place as they were
communicating with this spirit. Thus, there was great expectation when we were
standing there in the pitch dark waiting for him to do something, but somewhat
disappointing he did not, except for one guy who felt as though he was being
tapped on the back. Soon afterwards, it was 2am and time to end the evening’s
affairs, which as I left I couldn’t help but think that it was too early as
most likely a lot more would have happened if we’d stayed, especially if anyone
had dared to chance on being there alone…
